1. Bối cảnh thị trường 2026 - sau Broadcom

Tháng 11/2023, Broadcom hoàn tất mua VMware với giá 69 tỷ USD. Trong vòng 6 tháng, Broadcom thực hiện thay đổi mô hình kinh doanh mà thị trường gọi là "VMware shock":

• Bỏ perpetual license, chuyển 100% sang subscription per-core, minimum 16 core/CPU.
• Giảm số SKU từ 168 xuống còn 4 bundle chính (VCF, VVF, vSAN, vSphere standalone).
• Một số khách hàng báo tăng giá 2-5x sau khi renew.
• Cắt nhiều chương trình partner (VMware Partner Program restructured).

Hệ quả: nhiều doanh nghiệp toàn cầu (AT&T, Computershare, Beeks Group) đã hoặc đang migrate khỏi VMware. Tại Việt Nam, các doanh nghiệp sử dụng vSphere 7/8 đang cân nhắc Hyper-V, Nutanix, OpenStack, hoặc thậm chí KVM-based.

2. Hyper-V - hypervisor "free with Windows Server"

Hyper-V là Type-1 hypervisor (bare metal) tích hợp sẵn trong Windows Server từ 2008. Đặc điểm:

• Miễn phí khi bạn đã có Windows Server Standard hoặc Datacenter.
• Performance overhead 2-5% cho VM Windows, 5-10% cho Linux.
• Hỗ trợ live migration, replica, failover clustering native.
• Quản lý: Hyper-V Manager (GUI), Failover Cluster Manager, System Center VMM, hoặc Windows Admin Center (web-based).
• Windows Hyper-V Server standalone (bare metal hypervisor không có GUI Windows Server) - Microsoft đã ngừng phát triển bản standalone sau 2019; khuyến nghị dùng Server Core với Hyper-V role.

License Hyper-V

Hyper-V miễn phí, NHƯNG VM Windows Server bên trong vẫn cần license OSE:

• Standard cover host + 2 VM Windows Server.
• Datacenter cover host + unlimited VM Windows Server.
• VM Linux trong Hyper-V miễn phí (chỉ tốn license Linux distro nếu chọn RHEL/SLES).

3. VMware vSphere - feature-rich, ecosystem mạnh

vSphere = ESXi (hypervisor) + vCenter (management) + tools. Đặc điểm:

• Hypervisor type-1, performance overhead 1-3% (slightly tốt hơn Hyper-V).
• Ecosystem 20+ năm - backup vendors (Veeam, Commvault), storage (Pure, NetApp), security (Trellix, Trend Micro) đều native integrate.
• Features: DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler), Storage DRS, vMotion, Storage vMotion, Fault Tolerance, vSAN, NSX.
• Multi-OS: Windows, Linux, BSD, Solaris, Mac (limited) - hỗ trợ rộng nhất.

License vSphere 2026

• vSphere Foundation (VVF): per-core subscription, ~$135/core/year (giá list).
• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF): toàn bộ stack, ~$350/core/year.
• Tối thiểu 16 core/CPU.
• So sánh: 1 host 32-core × $135 = ~$4,320/năm cho vSphere VVF (~ 110 triệu VND/năm) - chỉ riêng hypervisor.

So sánh thẳng: 1 host 32-core. Hyper-V (Datacenter) = ~210 triệu một lần, dùng vĩnh viễn (chỉ trả CAL nếu user thêm). vSphere VVF = ~110 triệu/năm, sau 2 năm là 220 triệu, sau 5 năm là 550 triệu.

5. Performance - thực tế

Trong benchmark độc lập (SPEC, TPC), Hyper-V và ESXi performance chênh nhau <5%. Cả hai đã trưởng thành, không còn khác biệt rõ rệt như 10 năm trước.

• VM Windows: Hyper-V tối ưu hơn (do cùng nhà sản xuất). Ưu thế ~2-3%.
• VM Linux: vSphere tối ưu hơn nhờ paravirt driver lâu năm. Ưu thế ~3-5%.
• I/O storage: VMFS (vSphere) và CSV (Hyper-V) tương đương. vSAN thường nhanh hơn S2D 5-10% nhưng đắt hơn.
• Network: cả hai support SR-IOV và DPDK đầy đủ.

6. Ecosystem và quản lý

Hyper-V management

• Hyper-V Manager (GUI MMC) - đơn giản, single-host.
• Failover Cluster Manager - quản lý cluster.
• Windows Admin Center - web-based, quản lý nhiều host, miễn phí. Đang trở thành tool chính.
• System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) - enterprise grade, paid (kèm System Center).
• PowerShell - automation native, mạnh nhất trong ngành.

vSphere management

• vCenter Server - single pane of glass cho toàn cluster.
• vSphere Client (HTML5) - UI hiện đại.
• PowerCLI - PowerShell module cho vSphere.
• vRealize Suite - operations, automation, logs (đắt).

7. Use case nào hợp Hyper-V?

• Doanh nghiệp Windows-centric (AD, Exchange, SQL Server, .NET app).
• Đã có Windows Server license, không muốn trả thêm hypervisor.
• SMB và mid-market không cần advanced VMware features.
• Tổ chức ưu tiên Azure integration (Hyper-V → Azure Arc → Azure Stack HCI).
• Budget hạn chế, ưu tiên CAPEX hơn OPEX.

8. Use case nào vẫn nên VMware?

• Đa dạng OS guest (Windows, Linux, Solaris, BSD).
• Đã đầu tư lớn vào VMware ecosystem (NSX, vRealize, Tanzu).
• Cần advanced features: Fault Tolerance synchronous, DRS automation cao.
• Multi-cloud strategy (VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution).
• Đội ngũ VCP-certified, không muốn retrain.

9. Migration vSphere → Hyper-V

Microsoft cung cấp tool free để migrate:

System Center VMM Convert

Convert VM VMware sang Hyper-V, batch conversion, hỗ trợ Windows và Linux. Yêu cầu SCVMM (license riêng).

Disk2VHD + manual

Cho VM nhỏ, không nhiều: dùng Sysinternals Disk2VHD trong VMware để convert disk → VHDX, sau đó tạo VM Hyper-V mới attach disk.

Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam có instant recovery cross-hypervisor: backup từ VMware, restore sang Hyper-V (hoặc ngược lại). Thường được khuyến nghị cho production migration.

Azure Migrate

Microsoft cung cấp Azure Migrate (free) để assess vSphere environment, sau đó migrate sang Azure VMs hoặc Azure Stack HCI on-prem.

Doanh nghiệp 4 host × 32-core, 50 VM Windows Server, 20 VM Linux:

Phương án Hyper-V (Windows Server Datacenter)

• 4 × Datacenter 16-core base = 4 × 110 = 440 triệu.
• 4 × 16 core bổ sung × 13 triệu = 4 × 8 × 13 = 416 triệu.
• VM Linux miễn phí license (Ubuntu/Debian).
• CAL cho 100 user = 100 × 750k = 75 triệu.
• System Center (optional) ~50 triệu.
• Tổng năm 1: ~931 triệu (hoặc ~881 triệu nếu không System Center).
• Năm 2-3: 0 license OS, chỉ CAL nếu thêm user.
• 3 năm: ~881 triệu.

Phương án vSphere VVF (subscription)

• 4 × 32-core × $135 = $17,280/năm = ~440 triệu/năm.
• VM Windows Server vẫn cần Windows Server license OSE riêng - Standard cho 50 VM (stack heavily) hoặc Datacenter để rẻ hơn = vẫn ~880 triệu một lần.
• CAL 75 triệu.
• vCenter Server license bao gồm trong VVF.
• Tổng năm 1: ~1,395 triệu.
• 3 năm: ~880 + (3 × 440) + 75 = ~2,275 triệu.

Hyper-V tiết kiệm ~1.4 tỷ trong 3 năm cho cùng workload. Đây là lý do migrate đang trở thành xu hướng.

11. Khi nào KHÔNG migrate sang Hyper-V

• Đã ký multi-year contract với VMware/Broadcom, chưa hết hạn.
• App phụ thuộc vào VMware-specific feature (vSAN config phức tạp, NSX network policy).
• Team chỉ có VMware skill, retrain mất 6-12 tháng.
• Tier-0 workload (core banking, hospital ICU) không thể tolerate risk migration.

12. Tổng kết

Hyper-V đã đủ trưởng thành cho hầu hết workload doanh nghiệp Việt Nam. Với chi phí thấp hơn 2-3x VMware sau Broadcom, và tích hợp tự nhiên với Windows Server license bạn đang/sẽ mua, đây là lựa chọn rất hợp lý cho 2026. VMware vẫn có giá trị cho doanh nghiệp đã đầu tư lớn vào ecosystem hoặc cần multi-cloud advanced - nhưng tỷ lệ này ngày càng nhỏ.
